Twilight tonics

Over at her blog, Mouse-traps and the Moon, Sue Fisher, Curator of the Eileen Wallace Children’s Literature Collection at the University of New Brunswick, has shared a list of alternative titles for tween and teen girls who may need a bit of a push to move beyond Twilight.

She offers two lists:

  1. books for older teens
  2. books for “your 11 and 12 year old girls who are reading Twilight despite your admonishments.”

There’s some great picks here, including a few Canadian YA titles that weren’t on my radar.

Fisher also recommends the 1948 novel, I Capture the Castle, which she says “pretty much invented the YA genre.” I’m curious about this one and would like to get my hands on a copy.

See the full list here.
